Qualitative Research 1 (Interviewing)

janneke-frambachThe art of interviewing

A good interview is the key to good data. But what is a good interview and how do you make it work?

One-on-one interviewing is the most widely used data collection method in qualitative research, because it is often easier to organize than focus groups, participant observations or diary research. However, when deciding to do interviews, we often overlook that it is all but easy to conduct a good interview and we risk ending up with poor or useless data.

In this hands-on workshop we’ll dive into the practice of interviewing, including the preparation phase. How do we go from research question to interview guide? What are good interview questions? How do we ask those questions to our participants? We will practice with developing an interview guide for your research and with doing the interview!
